Journal Entry 1

     Great teachers need to possess certain qualities to help them be their very best. They need to be committed, caring, courageous, conscious, and centered. I would like to think that I have some of these qualities but I would also like to grow in these areas too. I think that commitment is important because committed teachers will go above and beyond, adapting methods and building strong relationships with every student to help them reach their potential. I think that playing sports throughout my childhood and through high school has helped me to understand commitment. I feel that being caring is one of the most important qualities of a great teacher. I feel that going through the health problems that I went through as a young child helped me to have extra compassion for others. Being courageous as a teacher is important because teachers need to model bravery and not be afraid to try new methods. My personality is one that can be a little nervous to try new things so this is an area that I would like to do better in. It is also to be a conscious teacher so that you model self regulation and emotional intelligence. This creates a safe, connected, and effective learning environment. I try hard to be aware of others feelings and not react out of emotions. I always try to respond intentionally instead of emotionally. Lastly, it is important to be centered. Being a student centered teacher is crucial because it shifts focus from rote instruction to active learning, fostering critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and independence, which better prepares students for real world challenges and lifelong learning. All of these are important qualities of a loving and successful teacher. I hope to continue to grow in all of these areas.
